Panchakarma  (“five actions”) is a several day to several week penta-biopurificatory treatment in a specifically designed sequence aimed at upregulating the removal of accumulated metabolic wastes and toxic substances from our cells, tissues, organs, and mind. It is renowned for its beneficial effects on overall health, longevity, and refinement of the mind.

In our fast-paced, stressful and toxic world, endogenous and exogenous physical and mental toxins accumulate causing deterioration in physiological and mental functioning. This eventually weakens our homeostatic mechanisms, which allow chronic, degenerative, and other as yet non-characterized diseases to develop. These can evolve into specific diseases, ultimately compromising an individual’s health. Panchakarma can help to reverse many of these negative effects of daily living.

Scott Gerson, M.D., M.Phil.(Ayurveda), received his Ph.D. (Ayurveda) in 2001 after seven years of research for his seminal doctoral thesis: The Effect of Panchakarma Chikitsa on Hepatic Detoxification and Other Select Immune Parameters.Today, Dr. Gerson is one of only a handful of Ayurvedic physicians who have earned a Ph.D. in the field of clinical Panchakarma, and the only one practicing outside of India. He is widely regarded as one of the world's leading researchers in these therapies and an authority on their use in the treatment of chronic disease.

Namaste. In an effort to accommodate all individuals with unique personal and medical needs, The Gerson Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine (GIAM) offers comprehensive, physician-supervised Panchakarma therapies in an individual private setting. Please read the description below and contact us if you have any questions.

Private Panchakarma Treatments in West Palm Beach

Dr. Gerson also offers four, six, or nine day PRIVATE Panchakarma Treatments.

These treatments can be arranged at your convenience according to your personal schedule throughout the year.

Why We Offer Private Panchakarma Treatments

Our Private Panchakarma Retreats are conducted for very specific reasons and confer a unique set of health benefits. These retreats have been conducted by Dr. Gerson for more than 30 years in the traditional manner--following the Vatatapika style. The literal translation of vatatapika is “in the presence of wind and sunshine”. However what this implies is more than climate and weather conditions. Vatatapika Panchakarma involves individuals who, rather than be assigned their own isolated “hut” (kuti) where they live, eat, and have their treatments, instead convene together and interact during the duration of their therapeutic process. They have contact with others and engage in conversation, among other subtler forms of communication. This interaction can be energetically and psychologically positive or negative. If positive it enhances one’s sense of self, self-esteem, and focus; if negative (the true potential benefit), it can throw attention on the workings of one’s own ego (ahaṃkara) and lead to a glimpse into the inner workings of one’s mind.

Despite the honored tradition of group Panchakarma, there are many reasons why Panchakarma is conducted privately and individually, even in India. These reasons may include

  • Individuals who are too physically ill to be comfortable in a group situation.
  • Individuals who are psychologically uncomfortable with strangers.
  • Individuals who need to keep medical conditions confidential for professional or personal reasons.
  • The Group Panchakarma Retreat schedule is not convenient.
  • The medical condition requires closer personal attention by the physician than is possible in a group.

How It Works

Your daily treatments take place at Dr. Gerson’s beautiful Panchakarma facility located at 635 Primera Blvd, Lake Mary, Florida 32746. Our telephone number is (407) 549-2800. Our email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

You have the option to stay at any one of a number of hotels or B&B’s in the Lake Mary area. Rates are very affordable. Also, Uber service is very reasonable. Do not however call taxis. They are expensive here for some reason.

You will be given an appointment time by us when you need to arrive every morning; it is usually either 8:00 am or 10:30 am. After your therapy, you will relax a while and have an Ayurvedic lunch with Dr. Gerson and perhaps other staff members. After lunch, you will return to your hotel, perform any additional required procedures (i.e. herbalized enema), and then you have the remainder of the day free.

Dinner is on your own and Dr. Gerson or the staff will guide you. The basic requirement is to eat a simple, plant-based light meal consisting of grains, legumes and vegetables.

New Patients Who Have Never Consulted with Dr. Scott Gerson (or Not in 2 Years)

First, write down all your questions and call us to discuss your health situation. Dr. Gerson is a very experienced and insightful physician and there usually is a path back to balance and health no matter how dire the situation may seem. However, there are situations for which Ayurveda and Panchakarma are not appropriate. Our knowledgeable staff can help you understand and guide you with utmost care.

If you then feel Private Panchakarma is appropriate for you, you must first firmly decide on the dates and confirm with us. Then arrange an Initial Comprehensive Medical Consultation with Dr. Gerson. You arrange that through his office. If humanly possible, that consultation should take place in person at least 5 days before your scheduled treatments begin, preferably earlier. These comprehensive consultations generally last 1 ½ to 2 hours and cost $400. Many questions will be asked so prepare to speak candidly, openly and in detail about life and health matters.

If an in-person Initial Consultation is not possible, we offer Skype consultations with the doctor. The time duration and cost is the same.

*If you have consulted with Dr. Gerson previously but not for the past two years, OR if you have a new serious medical condition of which he is not aware, you must also schedule a preliminary Established Patient Comprehensive Medical Consultation prior to attending Panchakarma. Cost and duration are the same. If you are uncertain whether this applies to you, we can discuss and help you decide. Incidentally, the “two year” comprehensive consultation requirement is a legal statute and not an arbitrary policy.

After that consultation, the doctor will decide which preparatory procedures (Purvakarma) are required for you to complete before coming to Panchakarma. These usually involve all or some of the following: special preparatory herbal medicines, home procedures to support proper digestion and mobilization of ama, internal oleation, laxative therapy, or external self-oil massage.

You can also again confirm the dates you wish to come directly with Dr. Gerson.

Established Patients Who Have Previously Consulted with Dr. Scott Gerson Within 2 Years

There is no legal or practical requirement for a preliminary medical consultation. On the first day of treatments, you will be asked to arrive 30 minutes early so that Dr. Gerson can speak with you examine you, and explain your treatment plan. Also—bear in mind that you will be having lunch everyday with the doctor and will have ample time to discuss medical (as well as various and sundry) matters. However, it is up to you own discretion if you think a formal preliminary comprehensive consultation would be useful.

We also request that you send us by email a summary of your current health status and concerns including all medicines, supplements, and herbs you are currently taking, at least a week (sooner if possible) prior to arriving. We will send you the appropriate preparatory procedures.

For Both New and Established Patients: “Where Am I Sleeping and Eating?”

As detailed above, you can stay anywhere you like in the West Palm Beach/Palm Beach area. Our fixed Corporate Rate at the Hampton’s Inn assures you that you will avoid the sometimes double rate increases during the busy season (November-April), so for that reason it’s a great idea. But you are welcome to stay anywhere. The center of town is about 20 minutes away. The one little bad thing about the Hampton Inn is that, although they give us a nice complementary breakfast every morning, they do not have room service. So dinner is at one of the nearby restaurants. There are excellent Indian, Thai, and health-oriented venues all over.

Cost of Private Panchakarma

As always, we are committed to trying to keep the costs of these therapies affordable so that everyone who could benefit from them can have them.

The following are indications for different durations of therapies, but all prospective patients should consult with our knowledgeable staff or Dr. Gerson if necessary to determine the best duration of treatment.

We make every effort to make Panchakarma as affordable as possible and fees are determined according to one's clinical status, complexity, number and kind of treatments required, duration (days) of therapy required, number of therapists needed, herbal medicines required during the treatment period, specific dietary needs, and several other factors. The approximate cost is $700/day. Please call to discuss your medical condition and costs. At the conclusion of treatment there may be a small fee for maintenance herbal medicines and other optional supplies (usually $50-100 for 3 month supply) but there are no other additional or hidden costs.

Five Days of Therapies: with the advice of the Chief Physician

Six Days of Therapies: this is the most common and highly recommended and effective duration for most chronic metabolic conditions

Nine Days of Therapies: appropriate for certain neoplastic, chronic immunologic, neurological and addictive conditions
